Council approves fiscal 2027 budget after minor line-item changes

The city council voted to adopt the fiscal year 2027 budget after approving a set of line-item changes the council said would not increase the tax burden on residents.
A council member moved to approve the budget as presented on May 28 with several adjustments: increase the cash-balance transfer from $73,335 to $83,335 (a $10,000 increase); add a $900 gas-allowance line for the mayor (line 52.3515); change the employee-uniform line to $8,000; and increase the furniture-and-fixtures line (54.2300) from $40,000 to $42,350. The motion set the revised total income and expenses at $1,267,955. Another council member seconded the motion, and the chair called a voice vote. The motion was declared unanimous and the council approved the budget.
City staff and council members said the amended items are intended to cover one-time costs such as new signage and furniture and to formalize a mayoral gas allowance; they emphasized the changes are financed within the proposed budget and will not increase property taxes.
Staff noted a clerical difference in the totals during the motion; council members addressed the discrepancy before the vote and confirmed the adopted total. The council also had a budget resolution included in the meeting packet; a council member moved the resolution and it was seconded. The transcript records the adoption of the budget by voice vote and does not record a roll-call tally.
The council adjourned the special-call meeting and moved into the scheduled work session.
