Kim Carlson, Executive Director of Minnetonka Community Education, briefed the Shorewood City Council July 14 on the 20th annual Tour De Tonka bicycle event, scheduled for Aug. 2, 2025.
Carlson said registration stood at just over 1,000 riders at the time of the presentation and that organizers expect final numbers may approach 2,500. She described five planned routes, noted the event has raised more than $100,000 for the ICA food shelf since 2006, and thanked local law enforcement and safety partners for their support.
Councilmember Sanschagrin asked about key safety issues; Carlson said the primary concern is keeping riders safe across many roads and requested coordination. Councilmember DiGruttolo asked for suggested viewing locations for Shorewood residents; Carlson said she would follow up with recommendations and pointed attendees to www.tourdetonka.org for the route map.
The Council received the presentation and heard a short Q&A; staff did not report any required approvals associated with the briefing.
