Sheriff Larry “Ray” Newton and Chief Deputy Ben Schwartz told the board they located two 2026 Dodge Durangos at John Jones Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Corydon, Indiana, for a combined price that, together with a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado from Jim Schmidt Chevrolet in Delphos, Ohio, and vehicle outfitting from Safety Systems, totaled $160,975.85. Commissioner Duane Monroe moved to approve the purchases through the cum cap vehicle fund and Commissioner Doug Horn seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Newton also proposed a five-year purchase agreement for X10 tasers from Axon Enterprises, including training and batteries, with total payments of $100,020 spread over 60 months (about $20,000 per year, due each March). Newton estimated device life at roughly eight years, noting the actual lifespan depends on usage. Commissioners approved the taser purchase in a separate unanimous vote.
