Waldoboro Select Board holds organizational meeting, names committee representatives

The Waldoboro Select Board convened an organizational meeting and administered the oath for select board members before taking nominations for leadership and committee assignments. The board approved nominations for chair and vice chair and filled seats on interviewing, finance and assessor panels.
Select Board member John thanked staff and volunteers for the town’s recent Waldo Day events and congratulated Medall Valley High School’s varsity softball team on winning the state championship, saying the bond for school work had already prompted asbestos removal and boiler replacement work at the school. “They’ve already started stripping the asbestos out of the school and they’ve already pulled the old boiler out,” John said.
Board members nominated Ruben and Bill Bragg to interview panels, AD Simmons and John for finance personnel roles, and Bill Bragg for vice chair of the assessors’ board. The board approved those nominations by voice vote.
Members also discussed community fundraising for flags on downtown poles, noting prior volunteer leadership by Shirley McLaren, the Lions Club and the American Legion and that the town has not budgeted for replacement. Becky said she would be willing to help organize a volunteer group but did not want to take the work on alone.
The meeting included routine items such as the manager’s appointments (reported as informational), a manager’s report on a parking‑lot trial layout and a reminder that bids for a downtown traffic‑calming project will open later in the week. The board added an executive session on economic development (under M.R.S. 4056) to the end of the agenda.
