Council roundup: CO2 supply contract, prorated liquor fee and staffing changes

CO2 contract: Staff recommended and the council approved an annual purchase agreement with American Welding & Gas for CO2 used at the city water plant at the same rate as last year, $240 per ton. Staff reported a contacted alternate supplier had provided a higher verbal price, so staff recommended renewing with American Welding.
Liquor-license fee: The baseball association requested a prorated full-year liquor-license fee because it operates for roughly three months each year. The council agreed to reduce the $2,000 annual fee to $500 for the three-month season and approved a motion to that effect.
Personnel: Council formally declared vacant a police position after Officer Brandon accepted a role with another department and authorized advertising to fill the vacancy. Staff also announced that city mechanic Jeff Van Overbeck will retire effective Aug. 1 after roughly 18 years of service; council members offered thanks for his years of service.
The meeting then moved on to other agenda items and later adjourned.
