Grant City Council awards 2024 pavement maintenance contract to Pearson Brothers

Grant City’s council voted to award the 2024 pavement management contract to Pearson Brothers Inc., approving maintenance work that will include patching, crack repair and fog sealing on a list of neighborhood streets.

City Engineer Brad, presenting the item, named streets included in this year’s program: Juliet Avenue, Juliet Court, Delwood Road, Delwood Lane, Joliet Avenue, Justin Trail south of Delwood and Keswick Avenue and 65th Street. He said the city received bids and recommended Pearson Brothers as the lowest bidder; he reported the low bid as $37,500 and later referenced a recommended contract figure of $37,300 and a project budget of $48,144.

"I'm looking for a motion to award a contract for the 2024 pavement Management program in the city of Grant," Brad said, summarizing the work and the staff recommendation.

Council members asked for a map clarification on the Joliet Avenue endpoint; Brad confirmed work stops at the gravel section south of Delwood and Highway 96. He also told the council that neighborhood meetings were held virtually and residents preferred using maintenance funds for sealing and smaller repairs rather than pursuing full road reconstruction or special assessments.

Council members moved and seconded the contract award and a roll call vote followed in which the membership present answered in the affirmative on the motion to award. The council did not discuss any amendments to the contract terms during the meeting.

The contract award advances the city’s 10-year pavement program for the specified streets. City staff will coordinate with the city’s patching contractor, Asphalt Restoration Company, for any required patching prior to fog sealing.
