The Lamont City Council voted Sept. 8, 2021 to use federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to camera and clean a sewer main, authorizing a $57,200 proposal from Oasis.
At the meeting Mayor Mary Ann Dozark presided. Public Works Director presented the Oasis proposal and said the department also is looking into security systems for the city’s water and sewer infrastructure. Councilmember McTaggart moved to use ARP money for the work and Councilmember Devlin seconded; the motion carried with all ayes.
City Clerk Paula J. Harvey had earlier reported Lamont received the first ARP tranche of $34,051.91 and said Treasury guidance allows using ARP funds for water and sewer infrastructure. Councilmembers framed the Oasis work as an infrastructure use consistent with those eligible categories.
The council also approved a separate motion, moved by Councilmember Behrens and seconded by Councilmember Devlin, to upgrade city cellphones if the budget allows; that motion carried as well. The Public Works Director said he had received one tree-removal bid of $2,500 and would obtain additional bids before awarding that work.
The council’s approval completes authorization to proceed with the Oasis camera-and-cleaning contract using ARP funds; the minutes do not specify a start date or an expected completion timeline for the sewer work. The director’s comment about security systems indicates further work on water and sewer asset protection is under consideration but no formal action on security purchases was recorded.
