City maintenance staff told the council on May 11 that the Main Street Business District sidewalk approaches and curb-repair project has been completed, with areas of cracked, missing or heaving concrete torn out and replaced.
Jamie Van Beek said work is underway at the municipal pool: the pool will be power-washed, some areas will be painted, and most plumbing fixtures are installed and operable. Park restrooms opened April 14 and the park is prepared for summer use.
Van Beek noted Select Concrete and Halma Construction submitted a bid for an 8-inch concrete option for SE Diagonal Street improvements and he expects a competing bid from Vander Pol Excavating shortly.
Parks and recreation staff and volunteers reported recent and planned community activities: Travis Mullinix said the May 9 Spring on Main event drew good turnout and local businesses were pleased; sales of America's 250th celebration T-shirts are ongoing and Security Savings Bank will sponsor a coloring contest. Volunteers including Alex Thorne will power-wash the summer rec storage building and concession stand; Clover Kids 4-H Club will paint picnic tables using paint donated by Country Kids.
Hoogendoorn Construction has posted notice for bids on the new community center; bids are due May 19 at 2:00 p.m.; Hoogendoorn will review and present totals to the council.
No formal vote on pool or park capital expenditures is recorded in the excerpt; the minutes list related charges in the bills section, including Select Concrete curb repair for $75,224.00 and pool supplies for $6,530.03.
