Council approves several operational items: raises, parking signs, waste-fee review and park agreement

At the regular meeting the Good Thunder City Council handled several routine but consequential operational items: employee raises, a change in the firemen relief benefit, parking sign installation, review of a county waste-processing fee increase, and confirmation of a long-term park agreement.

Council approved retroactive raises (2% and 1.5%, effective Oct. 1) for two city employees after discussion of the proposal and moved to adopt those raises. The council also voted to increase the vested annual firemen relief benefit from $2,200 to $2,500 for eligible members.

On traffic control, the council approved putting two no-parking signs on a short strip of Willard Street to preserve sightlines and improve snow-plow access; the recorded motion included one abstention. The council reviewed a packet notice from Minnesota Waste Processing about a change in tipping fees (packet cites $356 per ton and a $118 tipping fee figure) and agreed to monitor mid-year the need for rate adjustments to cover costs.

Council confirmed a signed City Park agreement with a local Catholic church extending the arrangement another 15 years. It also approved routine mileage reimbursement for an employee and recognized volunteers who maintain the cemetery.

Council briefly noted that a county election agreement (voter-account amendment) requires return by the end of December and discussed the pros and cons and costs of returning to in-person voting locally, but made no decision on changing election locations.
