The Washoe County School District board approved two linked actions on June 23: a $51 million FY2027 D major projects program covering capital renewal and pre‑design funding for Sparks Middle School reconstruction, and a bond resolution authorizing general obligation rollover bonds not to exceed $50 million to support the FY27 capital program.
Facilities Chief Miss Zimmerman outlined the D major projects package, which prioritizes roof repairs, mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems, pavement replacement, grounds and playground replacements, safety and security upgrades (intercom, fire alarm), restroom safety projects and vape detectors at middle schools. She described a phased approach for Sparks Middle School (prototype planning based on prior project models) with anticipated construction start in summer 2027 and an opening targeted for fall 2029.
Controller Kyle Rodriguez summarized the proposed bond resolution, noting the district’s FY27 projected revenues and debt service plan and explaining that adopting the resolution enables staff to proceed with projects and record expenditures while final bond issuance is timed later in the fiscal year.
The board approved the D major projects program and then adopted the bond resolution (Resolution 26‑018) authorizing issuance of general obligation bonds in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $50 million. Both votes were unanimous.
