Mayor Robert Anderson presided over the City of Good Thunder council meeting where the council accepted the resignation of the city’s water/wastewater operator and authorized the city to post the vacancy and begin recruitment.
The council approved the meeting agenda, minutes from the prior month and bill payments by voice vote. The clerk reported detailed payment runs (checks and electronic transfers) to the body before members approved them.
The council received a Fire Department report and accepted the resignation of the departing public works employee (recorded in the transcript as R. Johnson/Race). The council then noted that an existing water/wastewater staff member will step in temporarily to perform operations while the city recruits a replacement and will carry the city credit card and site access temporarily.
Council and staff discussed minimum qualifications to include in the job posting: a Class D wastewater and Class C water license were discussed, with Council noting that an employee hired without a Class C would need to operate under a Class C or higher for three years before qualifying for their own Class C license. The staff member covering operations urged patience during the transition, saying the interim coverage is intended to “fill in until you guys find somebody.”
Council also scheduled a special code/ordinance review meeting for Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. to consider proposed ordinance changes, enforcement letters and nuisance complaint procedures. The clerk reported an order-for-disclosure filing in the Dakota Mart matter and said the matter could reach a review hearing in early February if required disclosures are not filed.
Other business included discussion of investments (a matured holding of roughly $312,893 that the clerk reported is now in 4M), priorities for lagoon infrastructure (including a chemical enclosure/roof), franchise agreement language updates for Excel Energy and a motion to make the city’s meeting videos listed on YouTube so residents can find recordings more easily. The clerk was authorized to attend the March MCFA conference.
The meeting adjourned by voice vote.
