Davie Town Administrator Richard Lac said at an open June 3 workshop that the town is recommending a 5.1 percent reduction to the operating millage rate in the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget, lowering the rate from 5.6250 to 5.3397.
The budget Lac described would cover Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027. He said the town council directed staff to evaluate the operating millage in light of rising costs outside the town’s control — including higher prices for gas, groceries, housing, materials and equipment — while maintaining essential services.
"I am pleased to share that following the town council's guidance, we recommended reducing the operating millage rate by 5.1% to the roll back rate at the first budget workshop," Lac said. He tied that recommendation to efforts to provide "tangible savings for our residents."
Lac said the town is reducing both the operating and the debt-service millage for FY2027 and noted the town has realized a debt-service reduction for 12 consecutive years. He also referenced the town’s AAA bond rating at the time it was issued, and said the town has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 15 consecutive years and a Certificate of Achievement in financial reporting for 12 consecutive years.
Budget materials for FY2027 are posted on the town’s website, Lac said, and he invited residents to a second budget workshop slated for July 22, 2026. He encouraged anyone with questions to contact town staff.
The town has not adopted a final budget; Lac described the recommendation and next steps following the workshop and the council’s guidance.
