Board approves FY26–27 parks and urban-forest work plan with request for earlier strategic-plan checkpoint

The Mountain View Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Board voted to approve the fiscal-year 2026–27 work plan on June 17, adding a line requesting a high-level strategic-plan progress update in advance of the formal annual report.
Director John summarized the work plan's ongoing items and fiscal-year-specific projects, highlighting the Thompson Park concept and name recommendation, the recreation financial-assistance program review and biodiversity/urban-forest plan implementation. Staff said dashboards and progress tools are being developed and that some elements will take additional time to compile.
Commissioners asked staff to provide more frequent checkpoints and to incorporate opportunities for PRC input during implementation rather than only presenting a final annual report. Assistant staff committed to bringing a midyear update and more frequent high-level summaries tied to the strategic plan and biodiversity plan actions.
The motion to approve the work plan with the added checkpoint language passed unanimously. Staff will forward the work plan to council and provide periodic updates on priority items during the fiscal year.
