Council approves $75,014.10 authorization for EOD services; grant offsets cost

Town manager Cliff Gravier explained the arrangement is handled as an open purchase order rather than a fixed contract because availability of state EOD officers can vary; fiscal rules require council approval for amounts over $40,000. Gravier also said the police department obtained a $15,000 grant to offset part of the cost and credited Chief Foley for negotiating the reduced amount. “The $75,000 is offset by a $15,000 grant that the police department was able to obtain,” Gravier said.
Council asked for clarification on the EOD acronym and were told it refers to the state bomb squad. The motion to approve the purchase-order authorization carried by voice vote.
Next steps: the police department will continue to coordinate EOD attendance at bandstand performances and events and will process vendor billing under the open purchase-order authorization.
