Commission approves rezone in Corinne area, tables Garland annexation and directs ordinance for road vacation

The Box Elder County Commission on May 27 approved Ordinance No. 651 to rezone roughly 22 acres in the Corinne/Bear River area from A-20 (Agriculture, 20-acre minimum) to RR-5 (Rural Residential, 5-acre minimum).
Community Development Director Scott Lyons said the parcel is planned to be divided into five-acre lots for family members and that the Planning Commission held a public hearing on May 21 with no opposing public comment; the Planning Commission recommended approval. Commissioner Lee Perry moved to approve Ordinance #651; the motion passed unanimously on a roll-call vote (Vincent Yea, Bingham Yea, Perry Yea).
Separately, Lyons presented a proposed annexation into Garland City at approximately 12800 N 7000 W. The parcel is served by Garland City water and would create an island parcel under county code; commissioners discussed water, the narrow road and emergency services and voted to table the item pending further information.
Lyons also opened a public hearing on a road vacation near 53400 W 27200 N in the Clear Creek area. No public comments were offered during the hearing and commissioners directed staff to prepare the necessary ordinance for consideration at a future meeting.
