Eldridge City staff report pump outage, expected fixes and operator certification

City water-department staff told officials on Sept. 9 that a floor pump has failed and, after two troubleshooting visits by vendor AKO, is not salvageable because it is discontinued. Staff said AKO would return with potential replacement pumps; Hawkins quoted a comparable replacement pump at $997 (pump only), and an alternative Stener unit was cited at $533 in the packet.
Staff noted the city's maintenance agreement with the vendor could include replacement under service terms, and said the pump could be replaced within one to two weeks depending on vendor availability. The presentation included an assurance that the situation was a typical maintenance expense and not an emergency requiring immediate extraordinary action.
Separately, the same staff member announced they passed their Grade 3 water distribution certification, which they said prepares them for upcoming system upgrades. The meeting moved on after the departmental update.
