Principals outline ‘plan on a page’: reading fidelity, math fluency and student connectedness top goals

Four building principals presented their ‘plan on a page’ during the Sept. 15 Fairfield board meeting, aligning daily instructional practices and community engagement with the district’s new five‑year strategic plan.

Washington principal (speaking at the meeting) said the building’s three priorities are improving math and reading outcomes, promoting social‑emotional well‑being, and ensuring every student feels connected. She emphasized following the CKLA ELA curriculum with fidelity and using targeted instruction, daily check‑ins, reteaching and data‑driven interventions to close gaps.

Pence principal reviewed school improvement work and WIGs (wildly important goals), noting examples of strong growth in early grades on formative assessments and describing family‑engagement strategies such as trimester invitations for parents to observe classroom routines. She said Pence is pursuing “lighthouse” recognition through a Leader in Me program as part of community partnership efforts.

The middle‑school principal outlined consistent student goal‑setting tied to MAP testing, a student advisory committee and student‑led “trust huddles” during Trojan Time to boost student‑to‑student connectedness.

The high‑school principal described career‑readiness work: a new college and career transition counselor (Amy Harris) is supporting FAFSA nights, internships (about 25 this trimester, 30+ next) and plans for a November career fair and a spring college fair. He also noted a building goal that all teachers identify essential standards and common formative assessments.

Principals tied these building plans to the district strategic plan and said leadership teams will report progress to the board during the year.
