Fairfield Community School District certifies election returns and installs Megan Dow Robbins as board president

The Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors on Nov. 18 approved a preliminary certification of election returns and completed its annual organizational business, including electing Megan Dow Robbins as board president.

The board moved to approve the county’s preliminary abstract of votes for the Nov. 4 election, pending the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors’ signed certification on Nov. 18, 2025. The abstract as read into the record reported Cody Freeman with 2,397 votes, Mark Porter with 2,416, Terry Wells with 2,176 and scattering with 106. The board noted that newly elected members Cody Freeman and Terry Wells will take oaths of office at the next regular meeting and may not vote at this meeting.

Why it matters: certifying the abstract is a formal step that lets the board finalize its membership and proceed with organizational votes and committee appointments. The board also used the meeting to set leadership and committee structure for the coming year.

Board business and votes at a glance: the board approved the consent agenda; adopted a resolution honoring outgoing members Ty Ward and Deborah Williamson and heard their farewell remarks; appointed Evan Martin as board secretary/treasurer (with the superintendent authorized to serve in his place as needed); and elected Megan Dow Robbins board president and Christy Kessle vice president by voice vote. Committee rosters for policy, operations/facilities, strategic planning, finance and HR were agreed by consensus and approved.

Departing members Deborah Williamson and Ty Ward addressed the board and offered parting advice. Williamson said she joined the board to give back to the community and urged the new members to hire talented staff and support them; Ward encouraged the board to stay grounded in the district’s values as they make long‑term decisions.

Next steps: the newly seated members will be sworn in at the next meeting, committee chairs will begin meeting and the board will proceed with a work session in January to focus on facilities priorities and the results of a planned facilities assessment.
