Council approved procurement of replacement water meters after Public Works staff explained that many existing electronic meters and their remote readers are past their expected 10‑year life and should be rotated out to avoid service interruptions.
Public Works also presented annual chip‑seal and crack‑seal vendor quotes; staff said the quoted rates are similar to last year and that the detailed street‑by‑street list and final contract totals will return to council for spring action. Council confirmed budgeted amounts are available but said staff should present a final prioritized list before work begins.
Staff noted there are at least several hundred in‑place meters of varying housing (plastic vs brass) and that the electronic reader battery lifespan is the primary driver for replacement; having spares on hand will allow quick swaps as meters fail.
