Richland County approves JFS contract increases and several personnel actions

The Richland County Board of Commissioners on June 23 approved several Job and Family Services contract changes and personnel actions, including higher rates for security officers and translation services and an amendment adding TANF funds for youth services.
JFS leadership told the board that the security officers’ standard rate is now $55 per hour, up from $50 under last year’s contracts. "The security officers proposal requested $55 an hour," JFS leadership said, adding the increase was requested to match rates elsewhere. Staff also reported LanguageLine translation services would be billed at $1.25 per minute and on-site shredding at $12.38 per container; average monthly LanguageLine use was described as about $200–$300.
The board approved the security, translation and shredding contracts following a motion and recorded votes in favor. The board also approved an amendment to Catalyst’s TANF youth-services contract to accommodate a federal change allowing an administrative rate up to 15% and to add TANF funds through the remainder of the contract year.
Separately, the board authorized offers of employment to two candidates for eligibility/referral specialist positions and one unit support worker, contingent on motor-vehicle-record checks. Commissioners also approved an internal promotion: an employee will move to the training officer position with pay rising from $20.44 to $22.99 per hour, effective July 2; staff cited the candidate’s three years with the agency and prior experience in the role.
JFS representatives answered questions from commissioners and media before departing. The board moved on to other routine business after the JFS session.
