Treynor board hears science curriculum pilot, career plan and student council updates

At the Feb. 9 meeting the Treynor Community School District board received presentations on instructional programs and student activities, including a K–12 science curriculum pilot, the District Career and Academic Plan and student council updates.
Mr. Koenck and Mr. Hansmann presented results of the K–12 science curriculum pilot, describing the curriculum review cycle, evaluation criteria, teacher feedback and classroom observations. Staff recommended continuing the district's current science curricula while planning targeted updates for Physical Science; final pricing and formal adoption recommendations were deferred to later this spring.
Ms. Floerchinger and Ms. Berens summarized the District Career and Academic Plan (DCAP), which the presenters said emphasizes career exploration activities, job shadows, college visits, business partnerships, concurrent enrollment and work‑based learning to prepare students for postsecondary success and broaden exposure to career pathways.
Mr. Nickerson provided updates on elementary and secondary assessment results (FAST), intervention strategies, instructional supports and enrollment trends. Student Council representatives Hailey Bothwell and Jude Mieska shared highlights from the first semester and upcoming student activities, and offered perspectives on coursework and extracurricular involvement.
No formal board action on curriculum adoption or DCAP funding was taken at this meeting; staff were asked to return with pricing and adoption recommendations for science curriculum changes.
