Council discusses zoning changes for vacant lots and parking; solicitor to draft ordinance amendments

Union City Borough Council reviewed proposed amendments to its zoning and parking ordinances on July 9 and asked the borough solicitor to prepare draft language for future council review.
Solicitor Tim Wachter and councilors discussed completing earlier changes for skill games of chance and whether to permit above-ground pools on vacant adjoining lots. Councilors also discussed allowing sheds up to 144 square feet if placed on a gravel base, skids or pillars so they are removable, and removing the adjoining-property setback requirement for those structures while keeping the front-yard setback requirement in place.
Council also directed the solicitor to draft a proposed amendment to the parking ordinance for Municipal Lot No. 2 after staff calculated how many parking spaces would be available if angled parking were used and expressed a preference to remove front-end parking in that lot. Council did not adopt ordinance language at the meeting; Solicitor Wachter will present formal draft amendments for the council’s final review at a future session.
The minutes do not record votes on final ordinance language, only consensus to proceed with drafting and future consideration.
