Sigourney council approves consent items, personnel change and routine payments

Consent agenda: Council member Clark moved and Council member Lentz seconded approval of the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the July 2 meeting; a tax exemption for Josh and Rhonda Vermillion at 620 Delta Road (Resolution No. 2025-07-13); a liquor license application for Elliott Oil Company at 805 East Jackson Street; the credit card report; and scheduling the next council meeting for Aug. 6, 2025 at 6 p.m. The consent agenda passed unanimously.
Claims and payments: The council approved Council accounts payable claims totaling $61,821.85. Council member Schultz abstained from that vote because his nephew owns Exceptional Edge; the remaining members voted aye.
Personnel and position changes: The council approved Resolution No. 2025-07-14 to eliminate the Office Assistant position. The resolution passed 5–1 (Schultz voted no).
Public Works phone stipend: Council member Conrad moved to increase the monthly phone allowance for Public Works employees Logan Northup, Jonathon Utterback and Randy Hemsley from $25 to $40 because they use personal phones for work calls. The motion passed 5–1 (Nay: McLaughlin).
Legion Park cameras: City Clerk Ashley Fry reported Legion Park cameras had been down and that Tom Watson restored them after about six hours of work. The finance committee recommended paying Watson $25 per hour for six hours ($150). The council approved the payment unanimously.
Public comment and adjournment: Resident Jerry Wohler raised concerns about golf cart registration stickers and residents blowing grass into streets; the mayor said the city would investigate. Council member Lentz moved to adjourn; Council member Clark seconded and the meeting ended at 6:37 p.m.
