The Lancaster City Council authorized $383,001 in funding to three local sites under the vandalism prevention and community enhancement grant program. Economic development staff recommended awards to Los Angeles County Fire Station 33, Lancaster Baptist Church and Grace Resources for perimeter fencing and site-security improvements intended to deter repeated vandalism and protect operations.
Sydney Assedda, economic development manager, explained the city’s repair-and-restore program has already reimbursed local businesses for smaller vandalism repairs, and this more comprehensive grant stream will fund preventive infrastructure. Assistant Fire Chief Mo Cazal told council firefighters have experienced security breaches at Fire Station 33 — including unauthorized people living in station space — and said improved fencing would let crews focus on emergency response. "This allows myself to feel better about my guys, my crews," Cazal said in the meeting.
Staff described the awards as one-time, non‑repayable grants and recommended authorizing the city manager to execute the awards with concurrence from the city attorney. Council approved the funding unanimously.
