The Glenwood City Council voted to approve a use permit for a youth mountain-bike 'try ride' program, with final approval contingent on receipt of current insurance and park-board sign-off. The council moved and seconded the permit motion and approved it by roll call.
The presenter said the program used Glenwood Lake Park as a home base last season and focuses on teaching skills rather than long mileage, serving students from fifth grade through high school. "Helmets are required," the presenter said, and staff noted helmets can be provided for participants who need them. Registration is handled online and parents sign waivers in advance.
Council members asked procedural questions about park-board consultation and insurance timing. The council indicated the permit would be contingent on park-board approval and verification of insurance that the presenter said currently expires April 11 (as stated in the meeting). Lions made the motion to approve the permit pending submission of insurance and park-board approval; Riner seconded and the motion passed on a roll call vote.
Next steps: council staff instructed the organizers to submit an updated certificate of insurance and to meet with the park board at its next scheduled discussion to finalize approval.
