Council approves bids for Highly Park renovation, funds raised approach project total

Michelle said she has raised $189,250 to date and expects to raise another $16,000. She described plans to meet contractors on site to verify scope and asked that staff (Jake) review bonding and contract details. Michelle also said she is pursuing grant funding — including a Walmart clubs grant for $5,000 that would cover most of the swings’ replacement cost (quoted in the meeting at roughly $6,400).
Council debated bid details and asked staff to review bids for completeness; the council moved and approved a motion to accept the bids for Great Outdoors and Cunningham/Cuttingham Recreation for the project "not to exceed $189,000," with roll-call approval recorded.
Why it matters: The approval authorizes contractor selection and allows project work to proceed, including removal and replacement of play equipment to meet ADA standards and a planned ribbon-cutting celebration when work is complete.
