Kalona council approves purchase agreements to study two parcels for potential emergency management center

The Kalona City Council on Oct. 20 authorized city staff to enter into purchase agreements for two parcels—503 10th Street and 502 9th Street—as potential sites for an emergency management center.
Council member J. Schmidt moved the authorization; the motion was seconded by Beisheim and carried with all voting yes among members present. The minutes state the city will complete an environmental review, prepare a demolition budget and request a Department of Transportation review regarding highway access. Those studies and estimates will be presented to the council at a future meeting prior to any final purchase or site work.
