Nursery operators urge Planning Commission to keep Mission Blue Nursery in place

Mission Blue Nursery stakeholders told the Planning Commission on June 24 that the nursery should remain in its current Baylands location rather than be moved to the Ice House Hill site included in the specific plan.
Devin Chan, board chair of San Bruno Mountain Watch and the nursery’s tenant at the Baylands site, said the proposed Ice House Hill location would have inadequate parking and difficult vehicle access, and cited excessive shade that would harm plant production. He urged commissioners to consider integrating the nursery and its native plant demonstration garden into the proposed community fields so the nursery’s environmental education, volunteerism and restoration work can continue to serve Brisbane and the region.
Staff recorded receipt of written comments from the nursery and Mountain Watch and noted those comments will remain part of the administrative record. Commissioners did not make a separate decision on the nursery’s location on June 24; the topic may be revisited at the continued hearing on June 30 when staff and the applicant provide further responses and potential plan refinements.
