City staff told the Hogansville City Council at the May 4 work session that the City is acquiring a 0.2-acre parcel from Speedway near the I-85/Highway 54 and Blue Creek Technology Parkway area so a dedicated turn lane can be built from the southbound I-85 exit ramp onto the parkway.
Staff said Amazon will fund the full purchase price of $325,000 and that the property will be titled in the name of the City, with all funds to be secured prior to closing. Upon completion of the turn-lane construction, the acquired parcel will become part of the parkway and be dedicated to the City. Staff characterized the quick agreement as avoiding delays to the I-85/Highway 54 interchange project.
Why it matters: the acquisition is intended to improve truck access to the parkway and to keep the interchange project on schedule; the transaction will be paid by an outside developer/partner (reported as Amazon) and will transfer title to the City once funds are secured and closing occurs.
The work session minutes record presentation of the agreement but do not show a formal Council vote at the work session; staff said funds will be secured prior to closing and that the parcel will be dedicated to the City following construction.
