The Butler County Board of Supervisors on June 9 tabled consideration of a conditional job offer for the county’s Veteran Affairs director after public concern and supervisor questions about the candidate’s residency and the offer’s terms.
A resident during public comment voiced disapproval of the hire because the candidate does not reside in Butler County. Supervisor Rusty Eddy reiterated that concern during discussion and asked for clarification about the candidate’s start date, the deadline for accepting the conditional offer, and the salary. VA Director Tom Heckman provided the board with the most recent update on the hire’s start date.
Following discussion, Supervisor Wayne Dralle moved and Chair Greg Barnett seconded a motion to table the Veteran Affairs Director conditional job offer until the following week to allow staff to clarify the start date, acceptance deadline and salary. The motion carried with all ayes.
The board did not make a final hire decision at the June 9 meeting; the item is scheduled for further action at the next regular meeting.
