The City Council adopted resolutions on June 23 updating classification and compensation schedules for city employees and implementing a 3.2% increase for the mayor and council authorized by the municipal code.
Administrative Services Director Janel Loflin presented the required oral summary under Government Code section 54953(c), listing executive salary ranges (city manager range presented at $243,840–$354,709, and other ranges for director and manager-level classifications) and explaining that negotiated bargaining-unit agreements include a 5% cost-of-living adjustment for represented employees beginning next fiscal year. She said the mayor and council pay adjustment is tied to the prior year's CPI and will be administered in the pay period that includes July 1, 2026.
Council moved and unanimously approved the proposed resolutions. Councilmembers made light-hearted remarks about the modest $32 monthly council increase.
Separately, the council heard many volunteer applicants for city boards and commissions (Budget Review Committee, San Marcos Community Foundation, Youth Commission and others). After public statements from applicants, the council approved several appointments and reappointments including Joanne Harris Malone (reappointment to Budget Review Committee), Vanessa Crespin (appointed as a regular member), Allison Stanton (alternate), and a slate of Youth Commission regular and alternate appointments. Council emphasized the importance of participation and attendance for volunteers.
The compensation resolutions take effect for FY 2026–27; appointment details are recorded in the clerk's appointment paperwork and minutes.
