Monroe council unanimously appoints Aaron Plesi, approves new parks position and authorizes oxygen-supply agreement

The Monroe Town Council on June 22 adopted three measures unanimously.
Appointment: The council approved resolution 26-067 to appoint Aaron Plesi to the Economic Development Commission for a term ending Jan. 31, 2031. Council Member Mauard moved the appointment and Council Member Kohut seconded; proponents highlighted Plesi's marketing and small-business experience and his prior support for town economic development materials. Plesi was sworn in by the First Selectman.
Staffing: The council adopted resolution 26-068, creating a full-time, year-round camp director/recreation program coordinator position in the parks and recreation department. The parks and recreation director said the role would provide expanded oversight for programs that have grown outside the summer months. Councilmembers discussed funding; officials said the department's separate program fund will cover the position for the foreseeable future. The resolution passed 7–0.
Contract authorization: The council adopted resolution 26-069 authorizing Terrence P. Rooney to execute an oxygen cylinder sale agreement with Air Gas USA LLC. The First Selectman said the new agreement reduces delivery and fuel charges and lowers hazmat and bottle-lease fees compared with the current contract; specific reductions cited included delivery from $88 to $70, fuel from $28.20 to $15, hazmat charges reduced from $66.53 to $5, and a bottle lease reduction from $0.48 to $0.32 per day. The town attorney reviewed the agreement and provided an opinion. The resolution passed 7–0.
