Forensic center near completion; county staff report on multiple capital projects

Forensic Center: Dodd said the Rutherford County Regional Forensic Center site work is roughly 95% complete, with storefront glazing, mechanical rough-ins and lab ceiling work advancing. A generator package has been delivered and interior finish work was underway; an interior modification to improve noise reduction in the death investigator's office was estimated at about $15,000. The project's current contingency balance was reported at $765,774, and staff listed substantial-completion punch-list activity for October with a move-in scheduled for early November 2026.
Other projects: Dodd reported pre-construction activity and early site mobilization for a new EMS station and an expansion of the Smyrna clerk's office (foundation work and slab pour scheduled in mid-July) and said recovery court interior renovations were nearly complete with only flooring remainng.
Singer Road property cleanup: The county conducted an in-house cleanup with solid waste staff and the correctional work center, hauling the contents of 17 30-yard containers, grading and installing signage; a GIS flyover will produce updated aerial imagery of the finished property.
Capital plan notes: Eric Hennessy, chief of staff, reported that the capital improvements list was updated from the prior meeting after department suggestions. Hennessy said department wish lists remain preliminary and the list is intended to be a prioritization input rather than a binding budget.
Ending: Staff will provide additional project photos and a final recovery-court report in coming weeks and will continue to provide construction-status updates to the committee as projects reach milestones.
