Chief Smith (Sheriff’s Office finances) briefed the committee on the three requests: a no‑match application to the State of Tennessee Violent Crime Intervention Fund; an application to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security School Resource Officers grant (running July 1 to June 30, 2027) seeking $3,975,000; and a request to apply for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) reimbursement covering certain incarcerations of undocumented individuals.
Each request received committee approval and the mayor was authorized to sign and accept awards on behalf of the county. Committee members recorded their votes by roll call for the SRO application and for other grant items; motions carried.
Committee members also reviewed and approved routine monthly reports from recovery court, probation, the correctional work center, emergency services, juvenile detention, EMS, fire & rescue, animal shelter, and risk management. Notable operational figures included the recovery court population (175), probation active caseload (1,323), EMS May call volume (4,282 calls, average response 7:09), and animal shelter live‑release rates (dogs 92.9%, cats 91.1%).
The SRO grant request drew attention because of its size; Chief Smith said the SRO application is a no‑match request and asked the mayor to be authorized to accept if awarded. The committee approved the application by recorded vote.
