Parks staff reported a small fire at Dutch Village that melted a roughly 3-by-3-foot area of the poured-in-place play surface. Staff said the structure itself and shade coverings are intact and that crews cleared debris and coned the damaged area so the rest of the park remains open.
Parks staff said initial reports suggest the incident may have been caused by youths: "we think it's kids," a staff speaker said, and the department has filed a report with the Police Department, which is investigating and talking with neighbors. Staff are working on repair quotes and said they may install cameras to help identify perpetrators and deter future vandalism.
Board members expressed concern about repeat misuse of park facilities and asked staff to follow up with a repair timeline and any public-safety steps. Staff said they will share photos of repairs when available and return with an update at the next board meeting.
