Resident requests work session on excluded parcel in Huxley Plaza TIF; mayor asks staff to research

HUXLEY, Iowa — Chris Gardner, a resident who addressed the Huxley City Council during public comment on April 8, asked the council to schedule a work session to review an excluded parcel associated with his Huxley Plaza TIF project.
Gardner made the request during the council’s public-comment portion of the meeting. Mayor David Kuhn responded that staff should continue to research the issue and return the matter to a work session for further consideration, giving Gardner’s request further review by city staff and council members.
City Administrator David Haugland also used the reports portion of the meeting to note several administrative items: the Public Works Department assisted a stranded motorist and the city received a note of appreciation; a housing survey has been posted to the City of Huxley website with paper copies and a QR code to be made available at City Hall; and Haugland, Council Member Echer and possibly Mayor Kuhn plan to visit housing units in Grinnell developed by Abby Gilroy, who has proposed redevelopment of Ballard Creek and adjacent land. Council Member Rigler announced that Kevin Cole of the Huxley Tree Board received a Department of Natural Resources award.
What’s next: Mayor Kuhn directed staff to continue research and bring the excluded-parcel matter back to a work session. No formal action or vote on the TIF parcel was taken during the meeting.
