Council grants 300‑foot waiver to allow Beer/Wine/Spirits service at Loretto Park brewfest

The Town Council on Aug. 12, 2024 approved a local waiver of the 300‑foot rule under Chapter 223 of the Liquor Control Act (Section 60‑6B‑10) to permit temporary on‑site service of beer, wine and spirits at the Mountain West Brew Fest scheduled for Aug. 24, 2024 on the grounds of Loretto Community Park.
Christina Jones, Director of Economic and Community Development, submitted a memo asking the Council to grant the waiver so applicants could obtain Celebration Permits from the New Mexico Alcohol and Gaming Division. The memo states: "The Department of Community Development formally requests a waiver of the 300 Foot Rule, pursuant to Chapter 223 of the Liquor Control Act Section, 60-6B-10, for the purpose of hosting the Mountain West Brew Fest to be held on the grounds of the Loretto Community Park on August 24, 2024." It noted the waiver would allow temporary service within 300 feet of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, First Assembly of God Church, Potters House Church and PB & J Therapeutic Preschool.
The memo listed breweries and distilleries expected to submit celebration permits, including Downshift Brewing Co., Kaktus Brewing, Left Turn Distilling, Beer Creek Brewing, One Distillery and 377 Brewery. The request also asked Council to authorize Mayor Torres to sign additional applications received before the state's deadline.
Councilor Torres‑Quintana moved to approve the waiver; Councilor Valverde seconded and the motion passed by unanimous roll call. No public comment was recorded on the item.
Organizers and staff must still complete state celebration‑permit applications and comply with any state conditions; the Mayor's signature was authorized for any additional applications received before the filing deadline.
