Council advances billboard ordinance changes for I2 district to second reading

Mark, a city staff member, briefed the council on Ordinance No. 367, an amendment to Chapter 153 that changes billboard-sign rules in the I2 heavy industrial district. He said the Planning Commission recommended two targeted changes from the draft: reduce the front-yard setback along the highway right-of-way to 10 feet and make the 400-foot spacing requirement apply per side of the highway rather than across both sides.
Dwayne Frederickson, who attended and previously engaged with the planning process, proposed changes the commission adopted to address parcel constraints near the railroad and highway right-of-way. Mark explained the change was limited to the I2 zoning district along that state highway corridor and would not affect other town areas.
Council moved to adopt the ordinance on first reading and the motion carried by voice vote. Staff said the item will return for a second reading at the next council meeting.
Next steps: staff will return with the ordinance for second reading and any clerical adjustments; the council will consider final adoption at that meeting.
