At the Aug. 7 Gaylord City Council meeting, public works staff asked the council to approve a replacement street broom and to declare obsolete baseball‑field lights surplus.
Ty, public works staff, said the broom on the city’s 2011 John Deere is worn out and parts and frame fatigue have left it at the end of its service life. Ty said he checked state contract pricing but found a dealer discount (Midwest Machinery) that reduced the replacement price; he stated a purchase price of $5,925 and asked the council to authorize the purchase from the street budget line 404. The council moved to approve the purchase and the motion carried.
Ty also described older large field lights and controllers that had been left behind the water plant after recent field replacements. The units are operable but oversized for other sites; staff proposed declaring them surplus and auctioning them off. Council moved to declare the lights and controllers surplus and to proceed with auction; members discussed whether to set a reserve price and concluded they would sell them for whatever they could fetch.
Both motions passed by voice vote.
