Board members praised the concept as a way to retain families who may be leaving the district for specialized programs, but raised practical fiscal and timeline questions. Trustees asked staff to test community interest through marketing and an application window (magnet applications open in October) and to return with enrollment data before any capital spending. Superintendent Pender recommended tentative approval of the concept so the district can include the program in the July magnet procedures while staff markets the program and gathers applicant counts. Members emphasized that any requests for capital funding would come back to the board only after market validation.
