The Enumclaw City Council opened a public hearing at 7:07 p.m. and received a staff presentation on Ordinance 2837, proposed amendments to the city's airport zoning district. Winston Larson, the city’s senior planner, told council the ordinance would reduce minimum side-yard setbacks from 20 feet to 10 feet in the Enumclaw Airport zoning district and amend a footnote to permit accessory structures up to 18 feet where the airport zone abuts residential property.
Larson said the changes are intended to align the zoning code with the Enumclaw Airport’s operational needs while maintaining compatibility with neighboring properties and the city’s 2024 comprehensive plan. He noted the Planning Commission reviewed the proposal and voted on April 23, 2026, to recommend approval to council.
The mayor opened the floor for public input; no members of the public spoke during the hearing. After closing testimony, staff recommended the council give the ordinance a first reading and proceed according to the options in the staff packet: adopt as presented, reject and direct further review, or adopt as amended.
No formal vote to adopt the ordinance was recorded at the meeting; the hearing closed at 7:12 p.m. The council is processing the matter as a first reading and will consider next steps in subsequent meetings.
