DuBois honors high school softball players who helped an injured woman

DuBois City Council presented a formal citation June 17 recognizing four DuBois Area High School varsity softball players for quickly aiding a woman who suffered a serious leg injury near the Highland Street softball field on May 27.
Coach Matt Ross introduced the players and described how the students heard cries for help during practice, located the injured woman, called 911 and provided first aid until emergency responders arrived. "A group of young ladies to do that before an adult got there, it's pretty cool," Ross said, thanking coaches and first responders.
The citation filed by the council and read at the meeting praises the students for demonstrating "calm judgment, maturity, and compassion well beyond their years" and says their actions "ensured the injured woman received timely care and comfort while emergency services were contacted." The citation names the students and coaches and is signed by the mayor.
The council paused to applaud the players and coaches and invited them for a photo; Council members praised the team's actions as an example of community service.
No formal action beyond the presentation was required. The citation was entered into the minutes during the June 17 meeting; the council continued into regular business afterward.
