The Dickinson County Board voted to support the Dickinson County Trails Board’s application for grant funding and to provide the local match for the proposed Tatanka Ska Trace 5 phase 5A trail segment.
Jordan read Resolution 2026-13, which says the proposed 2.2-mile trail will begin at 252nd Avenue in Orleans and continue east to 270th Avenue along the former Iowa Northwestern Railroad right-of-way, connecting into the broader Great Lakes Trail system. The resolution commits Dickinson County to provide local match funds and to be responsible for maintenance funding for not less than 20 years from the date of completion. Staff said the Trails Board has survey and design work about 90% complete and funding and design readiness are favorable for upcoming grant rounds.
A motion to approve Resolution 2026-13 passed unanimously; staff will proceed with the grant application and local-match arrangements.
