Lanni Boyd and Title I reading teachers presented end‑of‑year results to the Fairfield board on May 19, summarizing updates to the district Title plan, classroom climate surveys and student reading gains across Washington, Pence and the middle school.
Boyd said the Title team revised the district plan and introduced a simple climate survey for kindergarten through sixth grade; she reported improvements on three questions about student comfort, perceived teacher support and confidence in success. She told the board that 20 of 20 kindergarten Title students showed growth on FAST composite measures and 31 of 34 first graders (92%) showed growth.
Teachers from Pence and the middle school described small‑group instruction models (20‑minute groups, six students per group as ideal) and reported substantial fluency and comprehension gains: Pence reported individual increases in words correct per minute as high as 85, and middle‑school groups averaged fluency gains of 23.5–31.5 words per minute and comprehension gains exceeding expected benchmarks.
Pence staff noted that, so far this year, 18 Title students have been tested out of the program. The teams said they continue to refine selection criteria and group sizes to maximize impact and recommended sustained collaboration across buildings to identify and intervene earlier for students who need support.
Board members thanked the Title team for measurable gains and asked staff to continue sharing proficiency data as official ISASP results become available.
