Public Works staff explained the changes and said state law (RCW 46.61.400) sets default speed limits and authorizes agencies to adjust posted speeds following engineering studies. The one substantive change raised during the hearing was a recommended reduction to 25 mph on Leavy Park Road because the stretch provides access to a large recreational area and poses potential conflicts with pedestrians and golf carts; staff noted the ordinance text adds that segment at 25 mph.
Commissioners heard public input about a separate short, 45-mph segment on Glade Road and asked staff to locate and provide supporting speed-study documentation if adjustments were requested. Following public testimony and discussion, the board moved and seconded adoption of ordinance 06-2026 and approved it by voice vote with unanimous in-favor responses.
A printed/strikeout version of the ordinance showing amendments was available to the board; staff noted that posted speed defaults remain (50 mph for many county roads outside urban growth areas) except where the ordinance lists alternative limits.
