The City Council ratified a contract between the City of Alice and the City of Alice Firefighters Association (Local 4102) covering fiscal years 2026–2028.
City negotiators and union representatives reached an agreement after several meetings. Staff told council the contract raises pay scales across grades, increases entry‑level firefighter starting pay by roughly 12 percent to improve recruitment and retention, and reduced the number of steps at higher grades to streamline progression. The agreement also included mutually negotiated adjustments to callback procedures and other operational clarifications.
Councilmembers expressed support for the changes as a retention tool; one councilmember noted seven firefighters were lost last year and praised the higher starting pay. The council ratified the contract by motion and voice vote.
Implementation: the human resources and finance departments will update payroll and step schedules and implement the negotiated language per the contract effective in the FY2026 budget.
