Crystal Luna, who identified herself as co‑owner and co‑director of Cinderella’s Child Care, told the council the facility has a long wait list and that purchasing the neighboring building would allow the program to serve more families. “Our wait list is very overwhelming,” Luna said, asking the council to approve the rezoning so the center can “further expand to help the citizens of Alice.” Co‑owner Loretta Yarbrough Green said the daycare builds early foundations and urged approval so children in the neighborhood can continue to receive consistent care and preparation for school.
Planning and zoning staff presented the application and said required notices were sent and no objections were received. Staff recommended approval, citing the property’s location behind existing commercial uses and compatibility with neighborhood needs.
After closing the public hearing, councilmember motioned and the ordinance passed by voice vote. Council members did not request additional conditions beyond standard permitting and code compliance.
Next steps: the applicant may proceed with site and building permits and must comply with any building, fire and health requirements for expanding a licensed childcare facility.
