Mayor Johnson previews Nov. 9 rental inspections, CO monitor rule; council reviews new plow truck and sale of old truck

Mayor Jake Johnson told the council that rental inspections are scheduled for Nov. 9 and that he would like the fire chief to attend those inspections. He said the rental inspector intends to request an increase in charges for multi-family units — the current practice charges $50 for the first unit and $10 for each additional unit — and that the inspector will propose raising the per-additional-unit charge to $20 and moving inspections from a three-year to a two-year rotation.
Johnson also said the main change in rental inspections is that carbon dioxide monitors are now required in all rentals that have gas-burning appliances. The minutes attribute the policy change to updated inspection requirements; the rental inspector is expected to appear at a future council meeting to make the formal fee request.
On municipal fleet matters, Mayor Johnson said the city purchased a new snow plow truck that requires minor adjustments (running boards and floor mats) and that a load of sand has been run through the new truck. He said the old snow plow truck is ready for disposal; interested buyers may schedule a viewing with Mr. Clubb at City Hall and sealed bids will be opened at the next council meeting.
