Sheriff Daniels says Border Patrol coordination continues amid recent upticks and a regional SWAT barricade response

Sheriff Mark Daniels described recent regional law-enforcement operations and cooperation with federal partners while speaking on KWCD's First Watch.
Daniels said county leadership met with Border Patrol 'packs' and senior station agents to align expectations and responsibilities across Cochise County. "We squeezed that in because that's very much an important factor. The border is very manageable right now," he said, but added that the county has seen "upticks" and several chases in recent weeks.
On a separate incident, Daniels credited the regional SWAT team and partner agencies for handling a prolonged barricade situation after a shooting. "They barricaded and very resistant and...took into the morning hours to get him out but nobody else was hurt," Daniels said, describing a multiagency response that included the municipal police department and the sheriff's office.
Daniels emphasized collaboration: "when you work together it's amazing what you can do," and said the county attorney (Lori Zuko) attended coordination meetings to ensure agencies remained on the same page about legal and operational issues.
He also urged the public to exercise caution on roads during incidents and noted crews will continue to pursue those responsible for serious crimes, but provided no operational statistics, arrest numbers or timelines beyond those descriptions.
