12-year-old urges Windsor Heights to hold flag design contest

Zion told the council that flags have long been symbols that inspire civic pride and outlined his preliminary design ideas: black stripes to reflect an original theme, a white stripe representing the future and a central star for the community’s heart. He said he had not prepared a finished design yet but offered to submit entries if the city organized a contest. “I am here to create a symbol, a new flag that the people of our city could look at, fly, and be proud of,” he said.
Council members and staff confirmed Windsor Heights does have an existing city flag (staff described it as the city logo), praised Zion’s initiative and told him staff would follow up, noting he had emailed council. Staff and council encouraged Zion to submit a design and said they would discuss next steps.
